The magical Black women at HuffPo defined Black Girl Magic as “a term used to illustrate the universal awesomeness of black women. It’s about celebrating anything we deem particularly dope, inspiring, or mind-blowing about ourselves.” The only thing I’d add to that near-perfect definition are real life examples that would include but not be limited to your mother, Beyoncé, and this exclusive Black Girl Magic necklace from the Essence Murjani Jewelry collection.
Simply put, Essence Murjani did the Lord’s work when she created Black Girl Magic stamped necklaces! Without saying a word, Black girls and women can now express themselves and their prowess with a beautifully formed statement piece. I’ve admired the Essence Murjani Jewelry Collection from afar for months and was honored when Essence herself asked me to rock one of her impressive pieces.
Available in 16, 18 or 20 inches, each hand stamped plate and necklace are 14K gold filled. Gold Filled jewelry is created by pressure bonding a thick layer of 14K gold over a base metal such as brass or sterling silver. To be called Gold Filled, the gold content must be at least 1/20th the weight of the total piece. This is what stands Gold Filled apart from Gold Plated. There is not a minimum gold quantity required in order to be termed Gold Plated. A microscopic layer is sprayed on base metal for gold plated jewelry. (Read FAQs here.)
I’ve worn my 18 inch Black Girl Magic necklace almost every day since receiving it a few weeks ago. Something about it makes me feel proud. I noticed that it is lightweight, non-intrusive and doesn’t adjust to environmental temperatures (thank God). Other than the few instances my (sometimes soft) fingernails give me trouble, I have not encountered many issues using the necklace’s springring clasp. I love my necklace and have recommended it to my equally magical friends. My next purchase from the collection will be Melanin Queen and Melanin because in addition to being magical, my melanin stays poppin’!
