After 20 long years in the game, our girl Taraji P. Henson took home a prestigous Golden Globe at the 73rd annual award ceremony! The Empire actress attributes her deserved win to the show’s infamous character Cookie, an ex-convict who spent 17 years in jail for selling drugs for her husband, Luscious Lyon, played by Terrance Howard.
On her way to give her acceptance speech, which was Cookielicious, she handed out what looked like sugar cookies to random audience members. A few people seemed confused by the gesture, but most understood the joke and went with it. As for us, we screamed, “Yaaassss!” until our throats went dry! It was refreshing to see a professional Black actress take a moment like this and make it her own.
Taraji didn’t bow down to anyone and even challenged the Board with “I waited 20 years for this. You gon’ wait!” when they tried to rush her speech. Mark our words that her #ClapBack comment will surely make the 2016 Hall of Fame! In case you missed her cocaine white strapless dress flowing on the red carpet and in ceremony, here’s a round up of Taraji’s #BlackGirlMagic.
